CCTV being reviewed after ‘disgusting’ attack on Dungannon War Memorial

CCTV is currently being reviewed in a bid to catch the culprits responsible for vandalising the War Memorial in Dungannon.

The incident, which saw wreaths smashed and scattered across the road, occurred in the small hours of Saturday morning.

Sharing the images on social media, the Royal British Legion Moy/Dungannon, said: “[We are] very disappointed again to receive the news that our wreaths have been smashed and thrown all over the square.

“CCTV is currently being reviewed. We would appeal for any witnesses to come forward and believe this hate crime was carried out after 1am.

“These wreaths are placed to remember all those who fought in wars and conflicts all over the world from all communities in the Dungannon area. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We Will Remember Them.”

South Tyrone MLA, Deborah Erskine, described the incident as “absolutely disgusting”.

“Those responsible should be totally ashamed,” she added. “What does this achieve? People from both sides of the community fought in world wars and died for the freedoms we enjoy today. If you have any information, please bring it forward to the PSNI.”

Dungannon Councillor Kim Ashton also hit out at those responsibe, branding the attack “disgusting”.
